The Ability Organisation |
The ability to bring a little relief and happiness
|
![]() |
The Ability Organisation aims to provide a little relief and joy to hospice and hospital patients. We arrange free film and audio visual entertainment to children and adults. The projectors, screens, and audio equipment is supplied by The Projector Hire Company which is based in Berkshire, 25 miles west of London. The directors, David Brown and Clare Aitkenhead set up this charity in order to put a little back into the community and provide an hour or two of entertainment to those who cannot provide it for themselves. As well as the equipment, an operator is provided together with transport, but because the showing of films and other performances is not free, the Ability charity needs help to pay for these. This website was created to enable people to make an online charity donation. |

When someone is terminally ill or need long term care, the burden on family and friends can be enormous. Often the financial cost of visiting relatives in hospitals or hospices can be crippling. We are constantly looking for volunteer drivers willing to donate a few hours of their time to take close members of the patients family to and from the hospice or hospital. If you can spare some time to help people in need register as a volunteer by clicking on the link above. You will not be committed to anything you don't want and often we can reimburse your fuel costs. |

As well as showing films and helping with transport, the Ability Charity also donates money to other charities. Every year we donate money at our own discretion to charities that provide real relief in the UK and abroad. One thing we do make sure of is that, like ourselves, the charities we use also pass on the vast majority of the money donated to the end cause. These charities include The British Red Cross, The Salvation Army and others. We vet charities very carefully because many "so-called charities" especially Cancer charities, often pass on as little as 4% of the money that you donate to the actual cause you intended it to go to. The remaining 96% going on administration charges, wages, expenses, advertising, company cars, entertaining, meals, and travelling expenses, hotels, etc. |
